ANSIQIF - The New ANSI Standard for Digital Metrology

Quality Information Framework (QIF) is a new open ANSI standard for digital metrology developed by the Dimensional Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC) to support the needs of the metrology community. QIF extends the Model Based Enterprise (MBE) to include Digital Metrology.   

Enabling the Model Based Enterprise (MBE)

One of the challenges for Model-based metrology is the lack of a complete and accurate 3D product definition with semantic geometric and dimensional tolerances. To resolve this, Capvidia donated to the DMSC its MBD data model, which already had this capability and much more.

Under Capvidia leadership, a working group was formed and the QIF MBD module was completed and became an ANSI American National Standard on October 30, 2014.

QIF models include quality characteristics and measurement features as defined in the ASME Y14.5 specification and the Dimensional Measuring Interface Standard (DMIS).  QIF supports Digital Product Verification and enables Manufacturing Quality to join the Model Based Enterprise.

QIF is a series of interoperability standards (QIF Library) for the exchange of information across the entire quality measurement process; from model-based definition (QIF-MBD), to planning (QIF Plan), resources (QIF resources), rules (QIF Rules), Execution (QIF Execution), results (QIF Results), and statistics (QIF-Statistics).

QIF is a new ANSI standard for digital metrology that was developed by DMSC consortium (developer of DMIS – Dimensional Measuring Interface Standard).
